EVENT DETAILS
As a not-for-profit arts institution, BWT appreciates the role that
up-and-coming
artists play in the community. The economy is more difficult than ever to
people that work in the arts. The goal of the event is to promote the
theatre and neighboring artists and musicians that are up-and-coming talents
within the community. If successful this event will:
Drawing patrons from the surrounding community to the theatre thereby familiarizing themselves with the venue and the artists/musicians in attendance.
Provide a networking opportunity between artists/musicians.
Provide an immediate profit to the artists/musicians in attendance with the potential for residual profits through callback business.
All artists will be provided a table and chairs (if requested) to set up their booths. Musicians will be provided locations to set up or breakdown their instruments as well as a table to display information and items for sale.
EVENT DATES AND TIMES
Saturday, August 17th from 2-8pm
Sunday, August 18th from 2-8pm
MARKETING PLAN
Each participant will be asked to contact previous patrons, friends and
relatives to help promote this event. In addition BWT will:
Contact (more than once) our mailing list of 4000+ via e-mail as well as post notices on Facebook and elsewhere.
BWT will contact local news organizations with a press release of the event and secure listings in local newspapers and local e-news lists.
Create posters and other advertising material to post throughout the community.
COSTS
Each artist will have a vending fee for one day or both days due two weeks prior
to the event.
These charges will cover rental of the building as well as compensate BWT for set up and tear down of the event.
This year, BWT is offering online payment through BrownPaperTickets.com. This option will be available once you complete the important contact information fields below.
Checks must be made out to Bread & Water Theatre and sent to the above mailing address.
THE ROLE OF THE ARTIST
To be successful at this event the artist must take several items into
consideration:
As part of a "recession" sale a portion of your goods should be dedicated to more inexpensive varieties of art ($1-$50) or serve multiple purposes (ie: clothing) or in some way be practical to your potential patrons.
Bring all the supplies that you will need to display your work. It is better to be over prepared than underprepared.
Feel free to bring your current in-progress work with you so that patrons can see you create your work (does not apply to paints or chemicals that may create noxious fumes).
Bring business cards and other marketing materials to drive repeat business.
Market this event to anyone that may be interested in attending. The more business you can drive to the event the better your bottom-line is going to be. Artists will be given posters, postcards, and their publicity information will be posted on the BWT website to help attract customers. In the past, artists have not taken full advantage of these tools. For the 2013 Music and Art Fair it is expected that all artists and musicians contact past and future patrons in order to drive business to this event.
Artists who display their work outside on the grounds of BWT's theatre venue are more likely to attract customers and sell their work as compared to those who choose to remain inside.
